Work Experience:

Twin English Centre, Salisbury (July 2004 - September 2004)

Teaching one-to-one and group lessons at a variety of ability levels during ‘Summer School’ at this English language centre in Salisbury. I taught Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Romanian and Russian students.

Consultant Software Engineer, Mind Ready Solutions Ltd., Devon. (July 2000 - June 2001)

As a consultant software engineer with my own company I developed software in Visual Basic 6.0 to automate calibration procedures for a multinational optoelectronics company. Additionally I carried out major functional and aesthetic corrective work on other applications for this company. I ensured that the applications were brought under SourceSafe control.

Consultant Software Engineer, Nortel Networks, Paignton. (June 1999 - June 2000)

Working for this multinational optoelectronics company, I assisted with the challenges presented by large increases in demmand for their products. I developed new and maintained legacy testset software in Visual Basic, commissioned and calibrated new test equipment, and liased with information system teams to ensure that the production environment was reliable and efficient. The initial contract period was extended twice during the course of this work.

Test Engineer, Simoco Ltd., Cambridge (June 1998 - June 1999)

Unit / Domain Test Engineer (Jan 1999 - June 1999)
Using TCL and Expect I maintain and write new test scripts for Simoco's Base Site Controller software which is written using ASL / Schlaer-Mellor. I ensure that existing tests operate on current releases of code, raise and respond to Observation Reports, and write new tests to improve our coverage. I refer to internal documents, ETSI standards and liase with other project teams to ensure we operate to agreed messaging protocols.

Visual Basic Programmer (June 1998 - Dec 1998)
Automation of design verification testing for Simoco's TETRA system. This application accesses and submits tests from a central database to a real system for testing. I added database results storage capability to deadline for this system, and implemented mobile transciever programming requirements.

Associate Engineering Specialist, Nortel Networks, Paignton. (February 1994 - June 1998)

Design Verification (July 1996 - June 1998)
The Country Variant line interface team developed and tested country specific line interfaces for Nortel's residential wireless local loop product. I referred to and interpreted each countries test requirements and ensured that we produced documented test results against a formal test specification. I developed software using Visual Basic to completely automate our teams verification tests. I also designed a test rack to house the measurement instruments, and an interface tray to connect to our product. The system was controlled by a PC with the use of HPIB and DIO cards.

Production Test Engineer (Feb 1994 - July 1996).
I have also been instrumental in the installation and commissioning of two HP3070 In-Circuit Test machines using TSL board handlers for the Fixed Wireless Access production line. This has included writing software in HP Basic to add barcode readers, self-calibration and board data collection. I provided technical expertise on ICT processes, selected probes for the in-house designed fixtures, and diagnosed faulty boards. I have also been actively involved with Design Verification testing on new products to ensure that they perform to set standards, and have much experience testing and fault finding RF modules to component level on military and commercial communication projects.

Wandel and Goltermann Ltd. Plymouth. (August 1991 - July 1992)

One year degree placement. Specialist company in communications test equipment. (ISDN, PCM, PSTN). Developed skills in computer programming, software fault finding and PC based automatic test systems. I developed an automatic Select On Test component system using Turbo C and completed a competitor analysis report for one of the company's products. As part of a project team, I gained experience in Product Design, Quality Approval and Marketing departments.
