Today I was relieved to be away finally, after 3 nights at the same campsite, and so near the start of my journey! Most of the caravan owners had come to recognise and talk to me by then. I set off towards St. Austell with the intention of missing out a few of the steep hills on the Sustrans route. I tried the first 2 or 3 then looked closely at the map to work out a better route. On the way I got lost a couple of times.
I rode down to Pentewan on a lovely old tramway route and chatted to the cycle hire man at the end who stamped my card. They had a very large number of Dawes cycles, and talked about the same problem that I had had with my derailleur that he had observer on one of his hire bikes that had been returned one day.
I bought another ice cream, and then worked my way back along the track to St. Austell. Passing through here I made may way to the Eden Project for some early evening photos. I decided to leave a visit inside until tomorrow when there would be more time.
I made my way back past the post office that I had sent more stuff back to my dad. (drinking bottle this time), then a small stretch of the A39 to get to the campsite. Carlyon Bay caravan and camping park. £5 / night - free showers, loads of room. Cleaned up bike gears etc. Spoke to couple from London in blue van woman quite hospitable but man miserable as sin. Swimming pool available.
