Walking into town, Stromness is deserted at 9:30am in the morning. I need some sugar for my shreddies, and I also look out for clothes pegs to hang up my washing.
Later in the day, and with the docking of a ferry, the town is suddenly much more full of life, and I call into the museum to get some information about local landmarks and history.
There is a lot of local information here about Orkney sites and history. I spend ages in here writing down information about the scuppering of the German fleet in Scapa Flow, The Kitchener Memorial and the Churchill Barriers/Italian POWs.
